Touch and Go Visit to Atlanta, GA

I’ve flown through Atlanta on many an adventure, but only recently did I get to explore the area. I stayed at the Marriott Marquis which provided great accommodations and a central location. On the downside, construction in the area made traffic difficult, and the location wasn’t convenient to the Buckhead area which seemed like a more desirable area to stay in.

Piedmont Park, Centennial Olympic Park, World of Coca-Cola, and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights were very accessible from this location and highly suggested visits. Georgia’s State Capital, Mercedes Benz Stadium, The Atlanta Braves and Buckhead were an Uber ride away. My visit was part of a business trip, so I didn’t get to visit all the attractions I wanted. However, here is my to-do shortlist for next time…

  • See an Atlanta Braves Game…
  • Visit the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park
  • Visit SCAD Museum of Fashion + Film
  • Visit High Museum of Art

The Georgia Aquarium and Atlanta Zoo aren’t on my list but might be a great destination for you and your family.

Overall, I was very surprised by how big and vibrant Atlanta was. Of all the southern cities I’ve explored Atlanta seemed to have the most unique character. The foodie scene, sports fans, and public spaces complement the history and charm of old Atlanta. The city has some challenges but with its surprising diversity and corporate giants, it feels like Atlanta is on the cusp of even more growth and further greatness.
